The future of St Augustine’s and Ladymead School

Feedback from this consultation will be reported to the sponsors (the Diocese of Bath and Wells and Somerset County Council) and the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF).

Somerset County Council will carefully consider the feedback received early in the Autumn term. If, after consideration, Somerset County Council decides to proceed with the proposal, a Statutory School Notice will be published for each of the schools. This would be followed by a further six-week representation period when written comments about the proposed closure of the two schools can be made directly to Somerset County Council who will take the final decision about the closures.

The future of the Academy

The final decision regarding the proposed Academy would depend on the Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families agreeing to establish the Academy and entering into a Funding  Agreement with the sponsors. This decision is likely to be taken towards the end of 2009.

The Academy Project Team will continue to develop its detailed proposals for the proposed Academy in Taunton. This will include ongoing consultation and communication with students, staff, parents, the local community and other stakeholders up to and beyond the completion of the Feasibility Stage.
