Admissions
All students attending Ladymead and St. Augustine’s Schools prior to the opening of the Academy would have an automatic right to transfer to the Academy on 1 September 2010. Admission for Children who start Year 7 in September 2010 would be managed as outlined below.
Admissions to the Taunton Academy must comply with national Admissions and Admissions Appeal Codes, which came into effect on 10 February 2009. This requires the Local Authority in conjunction with sponsors and partners to develop a set of detailed admission arrangements and to consult on these arrangements between 1 December 2009 and 1 March 2010.
Sponsors are committed to developing admission arrangements that provide education for all children of all abilities and the admission entrance criteria will reflect this. An Admission Number will be consulted on which fully recognises parental preference and maximises the number of entrance places that can be made available.
The published admission arrangements will include a set of criteria to be used in the event of over-subscription to determine a priority for places within the Admission Number, although the Code requires that the highest priority must be given to Special Educational Needs children and Children within the care of the Authority.
The admissions over-subscription criteria will be developed to ensure that factors such as sibling connections, faith communities, suitable catchment areas and admission to Sixth Form are given appropriate consideration.
Entry to the Sixth Form would be based on students’ suitability for the courses available and would give priority of places to students in the catchment area, subject to their meeting a minimum level of attainment.
